iOS10 Compatibility

iOS-10-iOS-9.jpg

Just a quick update on our apps and iOS 10.

MailShot works just as in iOS9. You can send email directly from the MailShot app, or by copying a group to clipboard and pasting it into the address line of an email, or through Share Extensions.

You can also take advantage of the new iCloud group sharing feature to migrate to a new iOS device (should you be lucky enough to have one.)

NOTE: Since iOS9 was introduced you should no longer enter a group name into the address line in the Mail app, or tap + to add the group from your address book into Mail.

ShotList and FAQ are believed to have no changes in iOS 10.

TextShot shares an iOS 10 bug that prevents apps from attaching photos to a text message (Probably caused by a the new additions to messaging in iOS10)  I have alerted Apple to this problem in their code, and we are waiting for their fix.

If you need assistance, drop me a line from the relevant app and I will be happy to help.

Mailshot 5.3 Update Released

We have just released a new update for MailShot, our popular group email app, which adds a few fixes and tweaks:

  • Warnings when creating  overly-large or empty groups
  • Fix to duplicated groups, following a split of a large group
  • Fix for a graphical bug on the iPad Pro title screen,

This update also ensures that updated devices continue to save MailShot contacts to the address book. (As they are no longer needed in most cases, a future version of the app will offer to disable their saving, and remove them from your address book. They are already disabled for new users. )

We have also updated our QuickStart video, which you may find helpful. It walks you through current methods to create and use groups, sending photos and documents, forwarding email to groups, and sharing documents from other apps to Mailshot groups.

If you have any problems, please drop me a line from the “Support” button in the app.

A new, or refreshed, review on the App Store is very welcome after an update. (A shortcut is provided for this from the “Rate” button on the title page.) Doing this helps us to keep the app alive. Thanks for your help.

MailShot 5.1: New sort options

In a previous update we switched to automatically sorting group members by surname, but a few users preferred the old way of sorting members (based on the entire name), so MailShot 5.1 allows you to choose a few options.

To show the field used for sorting (Typically “lastname, firstname”) enable “Show Surname First” on the MailShot page in Settings.

To sort on full name instead, enable “Sort On Full Name” on the MailShot page of the Settings app.

MailShot 5.0: iCloud Sharing Between Devices

icloudWe are excited to announce the release of MailShot 5.0, a major update which uses iCloud to share group data, so groups can be edited and used across iPad and iPhone. It will also simplify the restoring of group data when you upgrade or reset your iOS devices.

NEW IN 5.0:

  • Synchronise groups between iOS devices.
  • Groups are automatically sorted in alphabetical order.
  • Group members are now sorted by SURNAME.
  • Can import members of one MailShot group into another.
  • Larger checkmark and (i) button targets, making them easier to tap.

TIP: Some of your devices may contain out-of-date copies of your groups: Start by updating the app and running it on the device that contains your preferred versions, then update the rest. (Any differing group versions will have “_2” added to their name. You can then choose to rename, delete or merge any conflicting versions.)

Alternatively- update and run the app on the device with your preferred versions first, then delete and reinstall the app on your other devices. (this will share just the preferred versions of your groups to your devices)

We hope that you enjoy this free update. To ensure we can continue to support and improve MailShot, I would really appreciate if you could please rate and review the app on the App Store (our old reviews are hidden every time we update, so renewing an old one is still very helpful.)  A link to rate on the App Store is provided from the title page of the app.

MailShot update: send to multiple groups

Since the changes brought about by iOS9, a few users have asked for the ability to send or forward email to multiple MailShot groups more easily, so we have added this feature in a new update, released today.
On the page that lists your groups, tap “Multi”,  select your groups, then tap “Send”.

Obviously, any limitation imposed by your email provider on the number of email addresses per message will still apply, so MailShot displays a warning message if you try to send to more than 99 addresses.

As you add groups, the title bar of the app will change to display how many unique addresses you currently have selected.

2015-11-17 13.47.13

You can also use Multi selection in the new MailShot share extension, introduced a few weeks ago, which allows you to share documents, photos and weblinks directly to MailShot groups.

The function to change the ordering of groups has been relocated. Select a group, tap “More”, then “Sort Groups”, you can now change their order with the grab handles that appear.

NOTE: Occasionally users report a problem when apps are updated through the App Store. If you are unable to start the app following an update, please turn your device off and restart it (you should see a white Apple logo) then run MailShot again.

You can read all about the new iOS9 features on our iOS 9 page, or find the answers to more general questions on our Support Page. As always, if you have any problems, please drop me a line from the “Support” button in the app.

If you would like to help us to continue to develop MailShot to make the best of iOS9, a new or updated review on the App Store would be very welcome, as all our reviews and scores are reset every time we update the app. (A shortcut for this is provided from the “Rate” button in the app.)

MailShot Pro 1024r

MailShot Pro works with iPhone 6S+, 6S, 6+, 6, 5S, 5c, 5, 4s, iPod touch, iPad, iPad mini, and Pro. It is available now on the App Store.

MailShot 1024r

MailShot works with iPhone 6S+, 6S, 6+, 6, 5S, 5c, 5, 4s, iPod touch, iPad, iPad mini and Pro. It is available now on the App Store as a free download that can create small groups. An in-app purchase removes those restrictions. No recurring subscription is necessary.

MailShot adds Share Extensions and Multitasking.

We have just released version 4.2 of MailShot, continuing our plan to optimise the app following the big changes that iOS9 forced upon us. This new update brings both Share Extensions and iPad MultiTasking.

Share Extensions- Share file attachments and links from apps.

You can now share files directly to a MailShot group from the “share” button, which appears in tens of thousands of apps. (Requires iOS 8 or higher)94Hnd

This “Share Extension” creates an email addressed to a group, containing the file. It can be used to share photos, documents, contacts, map locations, weblinks and many more items directly to a group.

share extensions

Use the “To:” and “Bcc:” selector to choose which address line you want the group placed on.

TIP: If you cannot see the MailShot icon, look for the “More” menu at the far right of the top icon row. You can  use this menu to enable it, and also to sort extensions into your preferred order, for easy access.

NOTE: If sharing is not behaving as expected from an app, try sharing to Mail and see if that gives a different result. If so, please let us know from the Support button in MailShot so we can investigate for you. (There are some known issues with sharing from iCloud Drive but we believe this is a problem in that app, as Dropbox and other apps cannot share the same files from it either)

iPad MultiTasking- Use MailShot alongside other apps.

This allows you to bring up MailShot in a second window on the right of the screen. To do this swipe from the righthand edge of the screen to bring up the multitasking window, then swipe from the top of the screen to choose the app you wish to use. On older iPads the second app will appear on top. On iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro the apps will appear side by side. (Requires iOS 9 and iPad Air, Mini 3, Pro or better )

You can now address your email with similar ease to the old method, by popping up Mailshot, selecting a group and copying it to the clipboard, then pasting it to the address line in Mail.

You can read more about the ways to address email in MailShot on our iOS 9 support page or in our new tutorial video.

We are continuing to work to make MailShot as great as it can be in iOS9. We are currently working on the ability to send to multiple MailShot groups at once.
