Mailshot 7.2 adds a default sending address

We often get asked how to select which email account Mailshot will use to send from, and until recently you could only do this by changing the Default account for all of iOS (or by tapping the “From” line of an email.)

With our latest update you can now set a default “From:” address on the Mailshot Settings page, which will be used for any new email sent from the app or its share extension.

This email address should match an account you have set up on the “Accounts & Passwords” page in the Settings app.

NOTE: If there is no matching account, the existing iOS Default will be used. There will be no warning message unless the address is illegal. You can see if the iOS default has been substituted by looking at the “From” line of the email before you send.

TIP: You can still change the sending address for an individual email, by tapping the “Cc/Bcc, From” line before you send.

Using Mailshot groups from Outlook

Most of our MailShot users use it with the Mail app, so we are set up to work well with that by default.

However the iOS Outlook app does not accept names and addresses in the standard format of “name <address>,” when pasted into the address line (which you would do to forward an email to a group).

You can fix this by changing the format which Mailshot uses for names and addresses when they are copied to the clipboard.

Go to the Mailshot page of the Settings app (a shortcut is on the Settings button from the Support button in Mailshot), then disable the switches for “include names” and “use <>”, and enable the “; as separator” switch.

Now groups copied to the clipboard can be pasted into the address line of your forwarded emails in Outlook.

ShotList increases its support for accented characters.

A user reported that they were unable to save XLS files to Dropbox, on investigation this was because their project name contained some accented characters (due to an issue with a third-party Excel library.)

The latest update to ShotList (9.6) includes a fix for this problem.

This follows recent updates to support the latest device screen sizes and iOS versions.

MailShot 7.0 Released

A new version of Mailshot has just been released today, adding support for iOS 12, and the new screen sizes on iPhone XR, XS and XS Max. (It remains compatible with iOS 11.)

A new option in Settings also adds the ability to place groups in the Cc: line, if you wish.

And don’t forget to try the recently-added options which allow you to add a signature or unsubscribe link at the bottom of your emails, and a few new format options when copying to clipboard.

TextShot updates

We have just released a new update for Textshot to roll together a few things we have added over the past few months.

  • Full support for iPhoneX screen sizes
  • Updated to use new contacts API, and iOS11-friendly features
  • Access all addresses for a contact, when their details are split across multiple address books.

Two more things to cover:

You can now swipe from the left of the screen to go back from most screens. This is useful as screens get larger, because it is harder to reach the top left of the screen

If you have both an iPad and an iPhone, you can now write an SMS on iPad and use your iPhone to send it to the phone system. To do this, enable “Text Message Forwarding” for your iPad on the Messages page of Settings on the iPhone.

As is usually the case, we use a staggered release, so this update will roll out to users over the following week.

ShotList and MailShot updates

We have today released a new version of ShotList, our movie scheduling app, to allow larger ensemble casts.  (TIP: The cast list can also be used for other things, such as specific equipment that may be needed for a shot)

A few weeks ago we released an update for MailShot and MailShot Pro, treating email addresses as mixed case again (after we discovered that a small number of email providers apparently ARE case-sensitive- this was a surprise even to us) and updates all the iOS calls used to newest standards.

And we are currently working on TextShot, our group texting app, to update it to use the latest iOS address book calls. This is expected for release in the next week.

“One Day” and “FAQ” Updates

iphone x 2We have recently updated two more of our apps to take advantage of iOS11 and the new iPhone X screen.

One Day is designed to help you count down to just the most important days in your life- a gig, a holiday, the end of exams, or a wedding or birth! The new update also allows you to swipe from the left side of the screen to go back through the app, making it easier to use on larger screens.

FAQ helps make repetitive email easier, by letting you store all text from sentences to multiple paragraphs, that you can assemble into the perfect email. We use it for all our customer support here.

MailShot 6.0 Released

Mailshot 6.0 adds support for iOS 11 and for the unique iPhone X screen, it also features a big graphical update (its third or fourth since launch.)

iOS 11 made changes which broke the sharing of links from Safari and  multiple photos from the Photos app, and this update fixes those issues (and improves some others)

We should have an updated tutorial video in the next few days, but it was felt to be worth getting the new version out there for anyone lucky enough to get a shiny new iPhone X.

As usual, if you have any issues, or just want to let me know how the new version feels, please drop me a line from the Support button in the app, as that includes useful diagnostic information that will help solve any issues quickly..

UPDATE: Mailshot 6.1 has just been released, this fixes an issue when sharing video from Photos, and when sharing PDFs from the Mail app.

iOS11 and iPhone X support

We have already updated ShotList for iOS11, and to add support for iPhoneX screens.

The current version of MailShot still works great with iOS11, although an issue has been reported with Share extensions from Safari and Photos.

iOS11 seems to have an issue with group messaging, it appears the “Group Messaging” switch on the Messages page in Settings does not allow larger MMS groups, as it dd before.  This seems to affec all non-Apple messaging apps including TextShot. We have reported this to Apple, and are investigating at the moment.

ShotList adds support for iOS11 and iPhoneX

Version 9 of ShotList is now available on the App Store. It adds

• Support for iOS11 and new iPhoneX screen
• iPad multitasking (both Split Screen and Slide Over)
• Dropbox API 2.0 (API 1.0 is retired at the end of this month

In addition you can now crop and rotate storyboard images as you add them to your project.

Some users were creating projects with very large PDFs, you can now also save a project as a PDF to Dropbox, rather than only using email.

There are also increased shot angle options, and various other small tweaks and fixes.

roundedShotList works with all iPhones, all iPads, and iPod Touch running iOS9.0 and above, and is available now on the App Store.
